Weimar Center Elementary School Raises Funds for Haiti

Eight students from Weimar Center Elementary have raised $92.12 for earthquake relief work in Haiti. Desire to help the people of Haiti began when students watched news clips about the disaster on the internet. “We saw the kids crying and we wanted to help,” said Robin (1st grade). Third graders Aleyah and Charlow said, “We heard that the people had no water.” Their teacher, Tricia Page, suggested that they could raise money towards ADRA’s $1 million goal for relief work in Haiti.

Students raised money in a variety of ways. Bryce and Sana, both second graders, said, “We asked our parents to help.” Other students worked to earn money or took money from their personal savings. They finally raised a total of $72.12 but one student (Naomi, 3rd grade) found a $20 bill in her pocket that was given to her for Christmas. Her generous gift raised the total to $92.12.

The students have helped with all aspects of the fund raising project. Moi (6th grade) and Vico (4th grade) assisted with drafting a letter to ADRA. Students also helped to roll coins.

Weimar Center Elementary now has nine students in five grades. It is located near the center of the Weimar campus. Students enjoy classroom learning as well as practical instruction, outdoor activities, and experience working on the Weimar Farm.
